Power Yoga with Ross

Attended a Power Yoga workshop at Pure Yoga yesterday. It was conducted by a Caucasian instructor named Ross. He explained that Power Yoga actually refers to Vinyasa yoga, which means flowing movements that follow the breath. He also explained what was Ujjayi breathing, and demonstrated it. Ujjayi breathing was breathing by the back of the throat, such that a wave like sound is made with each inhalation and exhalation. This breathing is supposed to be used throughout a Power yoga class.
Power yoga is very different from Sivananda. It involved plenty of standing poses, and alot of arm strength is needed. My shoulders and arms are still aching today. Attention was paid to using core strength and proper posture, so as not to injure the back. Relaxation was done in Hare's pose, but Ross called it Child's pose although our arms were stretched out infront of us.
Class ended with Bridge, then Plough, then Savasana.
If I get time, I'll take some pics of the poses we went through. I plan to take a few classes there to experience the various types of Yoga, and incorporate it into my teaching.
